The Volvo XC90 was the first SUV Volvo introduced back in 2004 and it featured their widely used 3.2L 5 Cylinder engine which is also featured in the S70, V70 and XC70 models. Today’s XC90 Volvo offers the driver the same comforts of other high end European cars. It comes standard with an inline 2.0 Liter single turbo charged B4204T23 engine providing 250HP at 5500 RPM or the upgrade option is the T6 with 316HP at 5700 RPM. The seven passenger vehicle weighs in just shy of 2 metric tons (4394 lbs) and has an estimated gas mileage of 20/27 which is good for the vehicle size. Among the many luxuries in the XC90 are heated seats, defrosting folding side view mirrors, navigation and steering wheel controls just to name a few.
The Volvo XC90 is a dream car for a family focused on outdoor adventures. As always safety is paramount with the Volvo engineers and this model’s features are unparalleled. The 2019 on models come standard with state of the art equipment like lane keeping assist, assist braking, blind spot monitor, cross traffic alert and lane departure warning. In addition other conveniences which drivers have become accustomed to are safety locks, on board hands-free communication system and wireless cell phone operation.
Front wheel drive is standard but all wheel drive is an option. Either option provides a reliable drive train. When you bring your XC90 into Berkeley Bob’s our technician’s will inspect the front axles for wear, check the axle boots to make sure they are not leaking and look for leaks in the transfer case. It’s important to stay on top of these items to prevent major breakdowns.
Regular maintenance is required to keep the Volvo XC90 operating at optimum performance. Volvo recommends oil changes every 7,500 miles but at Berkeley Bob’s we suggest bringing the car in for oil change service before the engine oil begins to breakdown which can lead to premature engine wear.
Another reason we like to see the Volvo XC90 models every 5,000 miles is to check the brakes. Due to the weight, especially when the vehicle is loaded down, Bay Area traffic leading to lots of stop and go driving, the brake pads on the XC90 can wear quickly. Regular inspection can prevent damage to the brake rotors, saving the customer from replacing them in addition to the brake pads. During a brake inspection at Berkeley Bob’s a thorough evaluation of the brake system is conducted including the brake calipers, brake hoses and brake lines. The Brake Control Module which when activated assists with braking, preventing loss of vehicle control that accompanies panic braking is prone to failure. Our technicians can check on computer system and see if the unit is out of parameter.
This high tech Volvo requires a powerful, optimum charge battery to keep all the functions running smoothly. Every time your Volvo XC90 is serviced at Berkeley Bob’s we check the battery output and recommend replacement if it tests below range. We prefer preventative maintenance to breakdowns saving you lost time and hassle.
At Berkeley Bob’s we know these cars, Volvo vehicles have been our specialty since 1985. It’s the little things we know about the Volvo XC90 that set us apart from other service garages. Bring your XC90 in for maintenance, repair or just advice and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by our thoroughness, competency and professionalism.
Owning a Volvo XC90 can be a wonderful experience and with proper care and maintenance will provide many years of exciting, comfortable and safe driving experiences.
